II. Water Immersion Method

It is not recommended to soak a large household bed in water: due to its large size, water is difficult to dry, and it is prone to internal mold growth.
III. Auditory-Tactile Method: Fully inflate the air mattress
slowly move your ear close to the mattress surface, listening for a faint hissing sound of air leaking; gently slide your palm across the surface, feeling the coolness of the airflow.
Disadvantages: Extremely small pinholes are difficult to hear; ineffective in noisy environments.
IV. Plastic Bag/Film Negative Pressure Method

Why is my air mattress deflating, but I can’t find the leak?

Linear micro-leakage can occur at the adhesive/heat-pressed seams between the air mattress fabrics. It’s not a round hole, but a dense network of extremely fine gaps.
Symptoms: It doesn’t deflate quickly; it releases pressure slowly and continuously. No large bubbles are visible in a single spot; only a layer of fine foam is present.
Key areas to check: All four sides of the mattress, and the seams between the top and bottom mattresses.
IV. “False Leaks” Caused by Ambient Temperature
The mattress may soften even without any damage! Gas expands and contracts with temperature: During the day, when the room temperature is high, the mattress is full of air. At night, as the temperature drops, the air contracts, and the mattress softens.
Many people mistake this for a leak.
Easy way to distinguish between real and false leaks: Keep the room temperature constant and leave it in a closed environment for 4-6 hours.
If it only softens at night when it gets cold and recovers slightly during the day → this is due to thermal expansion and contraction, a normal physical phenomenon; if it continues to soften under constant temperature conditions → a real leak.
V. Damage to the Internal Airtight Layer
Mid-to-high-end air mattresses with internal support: The outer fabric is intact, but micropores appear in the internal airtight membrane.
No leaks are visible on the external surface! Applying soapy water to the outside does not produce any bubbles; the gas slowly diffuses and releases pressure in the inner layer.
This situation is difficult to repair.
Here’s a standard troubleshooting procedure (follow these steps): Maintain a constant temperature environment and ensure sufficient gas supply; Prioritize testing the gas valve by applying soapy water and waiting; Divide the area into sections: top → sides → bottom, applying foam to each section, marking the areas, and waiting patiently; Focus on inspecting all seams; Wipe the foam dry and let it sit overnight to observe the rate of gas leakage.
How to Repair a Leaking Air Mattress
First, identify the type of leak, as the repair methods differ:
I. Situation 1: Locating the Tear
Required Materials
Air mattress repair kit (PVC repair patch + soft repair adhesive, very cheap online; do not use super glue or hard plastic glue! It will cause brittleness and make the leak worse)
Material Reminder: Most household air mattresses are made of PVC; flocked air mattresses have a velvety surface and require special treatment.
Operating Steps
Clean and Dry the Leak
Locate the leak and wipe it clean with a dry cloth; For flocked fabrics: lightly sand away the velvety layer around the tear to expose the smooth PVC base (Important! Velvet will prevent the adhesive from sticking properly), then wipe away any dust and allow it to dry completely, ensuring there is no water or oil.
Sanding Area (Crucial)
Lightly sand the area around the tear (3-4cm) to increase adhesion.
Apply Adhesive
Apply a thin, even layer of repair adhesive to the surface of the hole and the back of the repair patch. Do not apply too thickly!

Curing and Waiting (Do not inflate!)
Regular Repair Adhesive: Allow 2 hours for initial curing;
Complete Curing: At least 12-24 hours
During curing: Keep the air cushion semi-flat; do not inflate or apply pressure!
After it is completely dry, test with a small amount of air to ensure there are no leaks before normal use.
Tips for Small Holes: For pinholes smaller than 1mm, if a repair patch is not available, you can apply multiple thin layers of soft repair adhesive (allowing each layer to dry completely before applying the next).
II. Situation 2: Leaking Inflation Valve
Symptom: Bubbles only appear at the nozzle area after applying soapy water.
Two possible causes:
Dirty sealing ring / Slight aging
Inflate the valve fully, unscrew the nozzle cap, remove the inner rubber sealing ring; rinse with water, dry, apply a thin layer of silicone oil / baby oil for lubrication, reinstall and tighten. Test if leakage persists.
One-way valve inner diaphragm damage, cracked threads
Ineffective lubrication = valve damage.
Solution: Purchase the same model air cushion nozzle assembly online and replace it directly;
If it is a one-piece welded valve, it cannot be replaced separately and is difficult to repair.
III. Situation 3: Slow, minor leakage at seams / Leakage in the inner airtight layer
Fine, continuous bubbling at the surface seams.
For large-area seam leakage, patch repair is not recommended. Apply multiple thin layers of PVC soft adhesive along the entire seam, allowing each layer to dry completely before layering. Only suitable for minor leaks; low success rate for severe leaks.
No visible air bubbles can be found on the outside, but air continues to slowly leak out. The inner airtight membrane of the air mattress is damaged! The air is trapped in the layers, and the leak is not visible on the outside.
External repair is not possible!
In this case: Repair is basically ineffective; the only solution is to replace the air mattress.
IV. Situation 4: False Leak
A drop in temperature causes the mattress to soften due to thermal expansion and contraction. The leak stops after the mattress is left to stand at a constant temperature.
Solution: Softening at night is a normal physical phenomenon. Simply add a small amount of air before bedtime; no repair is necessary.
Methods to Prevent Air Mattress Punctures
I. Bottom Protection
A padding layer is essential; direct contact with the ground is prohibited.
Recommended choices (priority from highest to lowest):
Air mattress-specific protective pad > Thick, moisture-proof picnic mat > Thick yoga mat > Thick old Oxford cloth sheet
Thin sheets and blankets are ineffective against fine sand and small pebbles.
Thoroughly clean the floor before placing the air mattress.
Vacuum remove sand, wood chips, debris, tacks, and hard plastic fragments. Continuous friction between sand and the air mattress will create invisible micropores, causing slow air leakage.
Avoid rough surfaces: unfinished cement floors, gravel floors, and tiles with raised seams.

Do not place the following items on the bed: keys, hair clips, jewelry, scissors, nail clippers, hard snack shells, or disassemble cardboard boxes on the bed (spiky parts are dangerous).
III. Personnel and Pet Protection

Wipe away surface dust before storing; rolling up the air cushion with sand on it is like sanding it with sandpaper.
Do not force sharp folds; long-term hard folding will create hidden cracks and cause slow air leakage.
Place it in a storage bag; do not pile it with tools or hard luggage for compression and friction.

For areas prone to friction on the bottom of the air cushion, you can attach PVC repair patches to increase the wear-resistant layer; for frequent, long-term use, directly purchase a brushed air cushion with a thicker, wear-resistant bottom.
